Senior Shoutout with Kara Smith – Presented by Visit Wichita

Haysville-Campus varsity basketball player Kara Smith is in her final season on a team that features a ton of seniors. We caught up with the guard to learn more about her and what she plans on doing after graduation.

VYPE: Kara, during your time in school, have you had a favorite teacher?

Smith: My favorite teacher is coach Marrs. He is always willing to listen to me about any of my problems. Marrs just knows what to say to change my whole mood. I appreciate him a lot for these past two years.

VYPE: What will you remember most about your time in high school?

Smith: What I’ll remember the most about high school is the 2020 basketball season. It was the best season yet. The boys’ team was undefeated, every game was worth going too. The gym was packed and not a single seat was left open, and they were going to the championship but then COVID-19 came and ruined the chance.

VYPE: Now that you’re a senior and this is your last year, what is your message to the underclassmen?

Smith: My message to the underclassmen is to never give up. Keep chasing the goal you have because if you keep reaching you will achieve it.

VYPE: What is the first thing you will do after graduation?

Smith: The first thing I will do when I graduate is decide which college I want to attend.

VYPE: Here’s your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.

Smith: I would love to give a shout out to coach Wright. He’s been my coach for all four years. He understands me and matches my energy when it comes to anything. I love and appreciate everything he has ever done for me, and I couldn’t ask for a better coach.
