Campus’ Emily Dice – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by KTAG

By Ember McElrath

For some the sport of softball is more than just another activity, it’s a way of life.

“Softball means so much to me, it has taught me so many lessons on and off the field that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” said Emily Dice.

Emily is a junior at Haysville-Campus High School, playing the position of third base for the school team and shortstop for her traveling team. She is also involved in NHS, NSHSS, Link Crew, honor classes, and a member of her local church’s youth group.

“I always put schoolwork first and I am very hard on myself when it comes to my grades,” said Emily. “However, I feel like it is very important to make time for church, family, friends and other things outside of school.”

Getting started in sports Emily started off playing baseball, just like her older brother. She eventually switched to softball at the age of eight and could not have been happier with her decision.

“I enjoy the competitive aspect and I love how the sport is constantly evolving, which is constantly pushing you to become a better athlete,” Emily said.

There are plenty of people that Emily looks up to, but there is one person that she knows is someone she wants to be like.

“I aspire to be like my coach Laurie Derrico who has shown me that hard work and dedication leads to success,” said Emily.

In her free time Emily enjoys fishing, hiking, riding horseback, dirt bikes, and just spending time in nature.

After high school Emily plans to play college softball while studying meteorology.
