Campus’ Chris VanDyke – Athlete Spotlight Presented By USD 261 Haysville Schools

By Blake Chadwick

Campus senior Chris VanDyke is one of those players who doesn’t take anything for granted, especially now that he is a senior.

VanDyke has been playing football for 11 years, most of them being as a middle linebacker, but now, as a veteran, VanDyke has moved to center and defensive end for the Colts.

The senior has been a selfless player for years, and now, as a senior, his leadership has been what has set him apart.

“He brings a positive attitude each day to workouts, the classroom, and the practice field,” head coach Jamie Cruce said. “Chris has a maturity level that is uncommon for a high school student that will set him up for success in all he does.”

With most players trying to come in and set unrealistic goals, VanDyke is one who has been set out on trying to leave the program better than when he first came to it.

“My goals this year were to improve myself and try to be someone who is coachable and to be able to coach, and my goals for the team were to win more than one game and improve the program the best I can,” VanDyke said.

The senior comes in as a somewhat undersized senior in class 6A but has a mentality that has helped him do his job well.

“My mentality on going into games this season was that we were going to win, and there is no doubt even if the odds were against us,” VanDyke said.
