Campus’ Alexis Thomas – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by WSU Tech

Campus High School senior softball player Alexis Thomas was drawn to the sport from a young age. As a kid, she traveled with her aunt and uncle to watch her cousin play, and she said it’s the bond between teammates that first gave her the itch to go from the bleachers to the diamond.

“They always had team meetings and team dinners,” she says. “It just looked like a good connection to have with friends. Growing up and playing together, they [teammates] eventually become closer than your friends.”

That closeness tends to lead to good team chemistry, which is something all teams need to succeed. Thomas believes this year’s Campus squad has that chemistry.

“This year is going to be basically the same group of girls we had last year except for the one senior that graduated,” she says. “We all got along, we all had good chemistry, and we all worked together. There’s really nothing we struggled with.”

While the connection to peers is something that will keep a lot of people playing sports, Alexis says the unpredictability of softball has kept her motivated.

“You never know what’s going to happen,” Thomas says. “It’s always a different game every time you play, and you never know the end result until you’re done.”

Outside of softball, Alexis is on the Campus basketball team and a member of the entrepreneurship program YEK. Following graduation, Alexis committed to play softball at Butler Community College.
