Chris Davis is Setting Records with Colt Basketball – Presented by KDOT

By Matt Browning

Boys basketball coach Chris Davis was chosen as the Campus Coach Spotlight of the Month for December. Davis has a record of 62-8 over the past three seasons and the Colts were 23-0 before the pandemic shutdown state tournaments in 2020.

“Obviously we have had a great run of talent,” Davis said. “We have had some players that set the bar very high. Tyler Kahmann and Sterling Chapman used to spend hours in the gym. That rubbed off on a lot of our players. If you want to be good you have to put hard work in.”

Davis referenced the 2020 team as a combination of his best memory, but also the sadness of not being able to finish off the season.

“The best memory would have to be the team from two years ago,” Davis said. “To go 23-0 was special but the ending was so hard. When all is said and done, I think that team will be one of the top 10 teams ever. We had some dudes.”

So far this season, the Colts are off to a difficult start, but Davis knew it would take time for them to gel. He hopes that the holiday break provided that opportunity.

“We want kids that want to be coached and work hard and play for the name on the front of the jersey,” Davis said. “That makes our job as coaches easy. I love this team. We are close to getting healthy.  We have four key players out. Christmas break we will reset and be back to being 100 percent. We can’t wait.”
