Campus Coach Spotlight with Douglas Stanley – Presented by Visit Wichita

Douglas Stanley, who is in his sixth the head softball coach, was chosen for the Campus Coach Spotlight.

“I have been head coach of several summer softball teams,” Stanley said. “I started coaching my first daughter in 2005 and it progressed over the years.”

Stanley is an alumni of Campus and that experience led to him coming back to work for the district.

“The biggest reward is when players thank you for being their coach and teaching them life lessons outside of softball,” Stanley said.

Stanley wants his teams to compete not just against other teams, but each other as well. He takes pride in that aspect of his coaching philosophy.

My coaching philosophy is this: be able to compete with your teammates in an amiable fashion, be coachable, play loose and have fun,” Stanley said. “Always give 100 percent attitude and effort. No two teams are ever the same, the X’s and O’s change with talent levels, but the other stuff doesn’t.”

The Colts have won just four games this season, but Stanley believes his program has a bright future.

“We have a young team, and we have many new faces, they are very talented and have great potential, once they learn to play together and play a complete game, they will be successful,” Stanley said. “The losses hurt but they are necessary for team growth and development. I feel this team can win against anyone when we don’t beat ourselves.”
