Campus’ Andrell Burton Jr – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Spending the summer on an “elite circuit” with his friends competing and making memories – “just being able to play the game I love and have fun at the same time is an added bonus.” Burton told VYPE that his favorite athletic memory was from his freshman year when the team played Derby.

“I was grinding to get the starting spot on a stacked team, so when my Coach told me I would be starting, I was excited but not satisfied because derby is a big rival of Campus. The game was at home, and I got an And-1, and I went to shoot the free-throw, and I missed it; then, they saved it, and I caught the ball and got my first in-game dunk and poster.”

Sterling Gaston-Chapman is who Burton credits with having the biggest impact on him. Saying, “he showed me what it takes to be a leader not only on the court but off too because, at the end of the day, you’re a human, and you can either be a leader or a follower.” Apparently, he also “holds the record for most points and rebounds,” which is definitely something to aspire to.

Currently, Burton works at a coffee shop “run by Campus student employees, and the CEO/Founder is Mr.Kliewer.” Mr. Kliewer, AKA Coach K, is also who Burton names as a favorite teacher.

“He’s helped me so much with things from school to things outside of school; honestly, you just can ask for a better teacher because when he teaches, he doesn’t just teach business; he also goes into real-life situations to prepare you for the real world.”

As for the coffee shop, “it’s a great working environment to be in, and you get real work experience, and it can be put on a resume which is great.”
