Campus’ Tiana Murphy – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Campus Booster Club

By Blake Chadwick

For Tiana Murphy, toughness and determination have defined her career with the Campus girls wrestling program. Now a senior competing at 110 pounds, Murphy has developed into one of the experienced leaders for the Colts while building an impressive resume along the way.

Murphy first stepped onto the mat four years ago and has steadily grown into a consistent competitor. Over the course of her career, she has compiled a 115–60 record, qualified for the state tournament three times, and earned a state medal once.

“My biggest strength is my mat wrestling,” Murphy said.

Murphy credits her mindset in both practice and competition for helping her reach that level.

“My mindset when practicing or wrestling is that the harder I work, the more I’m going to earn,” Murphy said.

That work ethic has fueled Murphy’s goals throughout her senior season.

“My goal is to place at state, and as a team we want to compete and keep improving by practicing hard and focusing on the right things,” Murphy said.

Murphy has also taken on a leadership role for Campus as a team captain, helping guide younger wrestlers and setting the tone through her effort and experience.

Her success on the mat has also opened doors at the next level. Murphy says she has heard from several colleges about continuing her wrestling career, including Colby Community College, York University, and Ottawa University Arizona.

Campus coach Jamie Cruce says Murphy’s perseverance has been one of the most impressive parts of her career.

“We are proud of the way Tiana battled through injury and continued to compete,” Cruce said. “We look forward to seeing her take on life with the same toughness she has learned and shown through wrestling.”
